Rush and Primus first toured together in 1992 – and Alex Lifeson says the most interesting music was being made off-stage.

Lifeson told Guitar World that the two bands would hold a pre-show jam session each night, “usually in our dressing room or in a hallway”.

The rules for the jam?  You had to bring an instrument you didn’t play – there were accordions, flutes, clarinets – Lifeson even strummed his guitar with a tortilla chip instead of a guitar pick.

He says the jams were captured on tape, but unfortunately he doesn’t know what happened to the recordings.
