The European space probe Mars Express has snapped some photos of the Martian surface that appear to show it overrun with spider-like creatures.
But they’re not real spiders – or real creatures, for that matter. Instead, the dark-colored specks are formed by sunlight falling on carbon dioxide deposits in the ice – and are actually several hundred feet wide.
