Many songs by The Rolling Stones can get the crowd going, but few have the poignant energy that their 1969 hit “Gimme Shelter” has. In this 1975 performance at the LA Forum frontman, Mick Jagger really brings his classic stage presence.

The opening track on their Let it Bleed album, the song took an uncustomary political tone that sharply criticizes the Vietnam War. The similarly named Rollings Stone magazine at the time had said the band had “never done anything better.”

In the video, Jagger is seen tip-toeing, undulating, flowing from one corner of the stage like a leaf in the wind, and what substances, tangible or intangible, gives him this ability to captivate a crowd the way he does we will not speculate on. However, whatever the source, we are here for it and have to think that this may well be one of their more iconic performances to have been captured on film.
