Reuben Foster was involved in another, previously unknown, domestic disturbance incident on Oct. 12 in Santa Clara, as reported by The San Francisco Chronicle. The incident involved Foster’s longtime girlfriend Elissa Ennis, who also accused Foster of striking her during an incident in Tampa Bay on Saturday. Foster was arrested on Saturday evening, and was released by the 49ers on Sunday morning.

The 49ers told the San Francisco Chronicle that they were not aware of the October incident. According to the Chronicle, “a neighbor called police on Oct. 12 shortly after 11 p.m. to report a loud argument between the couple at their apartment on Carlyle Court.” The argument stemmed from material on Foster’s cell phone according to police. There were no signs of injury, and no arrests were made.

That incident took place just months after Ennis recanted domestic violence allegations against Foster, made following an incident on Feb. 11. A Santa Clara County Superior Court judge dropped the domestic violence charges against Foster after Ennis took the stand at a preliminary hearing.

More specific details have also emerged regarding Saturday’s incident.

“In Tampa on Saturday, according to police there, the couple got into an argument, and ‘Foster slapped her phone out of her hand, pushed her in the chest area, and slapped her with an open hand on the left side of her face.

“‘Officers observed a 1-inch scratch on the victim’s left collarbone,’ police said.

“A source close to Ennis’ family said she was taken to a hospital by ambulance, diagnosed with a concussion and then released late Saturday night. The source said she has returned home to Louisiana to be with family, is bothered by light and sounds and is unable to drive or go to work.”

Foster was released from jail Sunday after posting $2,000 bail.

Before Sunday’s game, general manager John Lynch spoke to reporters about the decision to release Foster.

“In this case, it was communicated exceptionally clear and to the point as to what we expected out of him,” Lynch said. “Unfortunately, what transpired yesterday, this is not a comment on what happened there because that would be mere speculation on our part. It’s more a comment on him not living up to what we communicated, to the energy and time we invested into him.”
