In an unexpected Instagram post Saturday Skid Row announced that frontman Johnny Solinger, 55, had passed away.

“We are saddened to hear the news of our brother Johnny Solinger. Our thoughts are with his family, friends and fans. Godspeed Singo. Say hello to Scrappy for us,” the post said.

Solinger’s wife released a statement the following day.

“Johnny has passed. I was holding his hand. He went in peace. Thank you all. I will take a break from everything but please know I am forever grateful for your love,” she wrote.

Solinger had recently been hospitalized for a month due to liver failure. A GoFundMe had been organized in response and had quickly raised nearly $17,000 to help pay for related medical bills.

He also had posted publicly about the state of his health.

“It is with a heavy heart I must let everyone know what’s going on with me and my health,” Solinger said in a post from May. “I have been hospitalized for over the last month. I have been diagnosed with liver failure. And the prognosis is not so good.”
