Sony Music will release “Animals 50,” a nine-disc deluxe boxed set celebrating the 50th anniversary of Pink Floyd’s 1977 album “Animals,” on January 22, with various formats and a digital version for sale.
The deluxe set features five CDs, three LPs, and a Blu-Ray with 5.1 and Atmos mixes, along with a previously unreleased track by Roger Waters titled “Young Nicholas Jon” and other rarities that have not been commercially available before.
The live component of the set includes a 13-track performance from May 9, 1977, showcasing both “Animals” and “Wish You Were Here” in their entirety, along with other notable tracks.
David Gilmour reflected on the album’s creation, stating, “The mood in music was changing in ’77… This album is more in your face and more rough and ready,” highlighting the influence of the punk movement on their work.
Although the band members are not actively involved in the catalog upgrades, statements from Waters and Gilmour were included in the announcement, emphasizing their enjoyment during the album’s production.
