Radiohead has always aimed to be at the forefront of rock music and push the genre forward.
The band initially struggled to find their footing and considered a one-hit wonder after the success of “Creep.”
“The Bends” album showcased Radiohead’s evolution and ability to compete with Britpop giants like Oasis.
Despite its commercial success, the band members, particularly Thom Yorke, were not fond of “High and Dry,” considering it too saccharine saying, “We thought it was rubbish. It was too Rod Stewart or something.”
Jonny Greenwood defended the song, likening it to a beginner’s guitar tune that could attract a wider audience.
“High and Dry” played a crucial role in Radiohead’s career, leading to opportunities like opening for Alanis Morissette.
The band’s reluctance to perform “High and Dry” live in recent years suggests they have moved on from that era and song.
