Chasta and Baby Huey caught up with Briton Bond and Cody Quistad of Wage War backstage at Aftershock to discuss the band’s new album “Landfall” and an unusually prolific year of new music. Wage War explained that after initially developing an EP, they realized they had enough material to keep going and decided to make it a year fans would remember, ultimately releasing roughly 17 songs rather than holding material back for later.
The band also discussed the current resurgence of metalcore and hardcore, saying the increased attention surrounding the genre benefits everyone involved. When it comes to Wage War’s own evolution, however, the band isn’t interested in chasing whatever sound is currently popular. Instead, they’ve been looking backward for inspiration from bands like Metallica and Pantera while continuing to build around one of the most important elements of their music: the riff.
