Baby Huey caught up with Jakob Nowell backstage at Aftershock to talk about stepping into Sublime, honoring his father Bradley Nowell’s legacy and carving out his own path with Jakob’s Castle. Jakob discussed the responsibility of keeping Sublime’s music authentic, creating new music including “Until the Sun Explodes,” and why he believes “less is more” when it comes to the band’s future.
Jakob also looked ahead to the next chapter of Jakob’s Castle, including touring Europe and his love for getting back on the road, playing shows and building a band from the ground up. The conversation touched on his LAW days, recording with Steve Albini, sobriety and some unforgettable stories from years of friendship and playing music. When Baby Huey closed the interview by asking what Jakob loves about music, he summed it up as “the story” and “the saga,” but ultimately pointed to the people who dedicate their lives to it, adding that he still believes music has “the power to save us.”
