The Grateful Dead released a version of “Shakedown Street” from June 30, 1985, as part of the “Summer Magic 1985” 20-CD box set, arriving Sept. 18.
David Lemieux, the band’s legacy manager, described the performance as one of the best individual song performances the Dead ever played.
Deadheads have praised the 15-minute version of the song, ranking it as one of the song’s finest moments in DeadBase book editions.
“Summer Magic 1985” includes seven full concerts from the Twenty Years So Far tour, capturing the band’s performances from June 14 to July 1, 1985.
The limited edition box set comes with a 96-page book featuring essays by Nicholas G. Meriwether and David Lemieux, and artwork designed by Marcos Alvarado inspired by old alchemical illuminations.
