Mick Jagger pointed out that some listeners were shocked at the wrong lines in The Rolling Stones’ hit single, “(I Can’t Get No) Satisfaction”.
Jagger revealed that the real eyebrow-raising line in the song comes in the third verse, where the reference to a “losing streak” is actually about menstruation.
The inclusion of the menstruation reference in the song was surprisingly ahead of its time and a way to normalize a normal bodily function.
Despite the taboo nature of discussing sex in the 1960s, The Rolling Stones’ hit single “Satisfaction” became their first No. 1 hit in the United States.
In 2006, “Satisfaction” was inducted into the National Recording Registry of the Library of Congress, solidifying its place in music history.
