A group of elementary schools in Colorado staged a full theatrical production of Phish’s Gamehendge saga, titled “The Helping Friendly Book,” performed by kids from kindergarten through fifth grade.
Music teacher Kirk Kubicek led a five-piece band of students to play Phish songs, with the entire school district participating in the production.
The show included a printed program explaining the story of Gamehendge and featured songs like “Wilson,” “The Lizards,” and “Bouncing Around the Room,” with props, costumes, and choreography created by the students and teachers.
The production was funded by donations, with minimal advertising to maintain a familial atmosphere, and concluded with a participatory encore of “Tweezer Reprise” to recreate the feel of a Phish concert.
Special ed/literacy teacher Brian Schultz, a Phish fan, described the show as “pure joy” and expressed his happiness at being part of the performance.
