“I Was a Teenage Sex Pistol” is a new documentary directed by Andre Relis and Nick Mead, featuring interviews with Glen Matlock, Steve Jones, Paul Cook, Bill Idol, Debbie Harry, and other key figures from the punk scene.
The film is based on Matlock’s 1996 memoir and aims to tell the story of his contribution to the Sex Pistols, highlighting behind-the-scenes tales of internal politics and subterfuge.
Matlock co-wrote a significant portion of the material for the Sex Pistols’ album “Never Mind the Bollocks! Here’s the Sex Pistols” but was fired before most of it was recorded, appearing only on “Anarchy in the UK.”
Matlock disputes the portrayal of his departure in the FX series “Pistol,” claiming he made the decision to leave the band due to conflicts with John Lydon and manager Malcolm McLaren, contrary to how it was depicted in the show.
Despite the estrangement between former bandmates, the Sex Pistols are set to tour the US with punk singer Frank Carter in the fall, following guitarist Steve Jones’ recovery from a wrist injury.
