Queens of the Stone Age welcomed back former member Nick Oliveri for his first performance with the band in 12 years at the Joshua Tree Retreat Center in Joshua Tree, California.
Oliveri joined frontman Josh Homme on stage to perform the Rated R song “Auto Pilot” during the band’s “Catacombs Tour,” contributing vocals alongside Homme and current QOTSA bassist Michael Shuman.
Homme and Oliveri were both part of the early ’90s stoner-rock group Kyuss before Homme formed Queens of the Stone Age and brought Oliveri into the lineup in 1998.
Oliveri was removed from QOTSA in 2004 following domestic abuse allegations but has made occasional appearances with the band, including contributing backing vocals on a song in 2013 and performing at a show in 2014.
Homme hinted at the possibility of a Kyuss reunion in an interview, expressing a desire to “set things right” and not harboring negative feelings towards anyone.
