Flea approves of the new Netflix documentary about Hillel Slovak, stating, “I finally watched the new documentary about Hillel Slovak. I’m so grateful it exists, and that more people will know how much he meant and continues to mean to us as a friend and bandmate.”
The Red Hot Chili Peppers distanced themselves creatively from the documentary, clarifying on Instagram that it was not an “official” band documentary, despite their interviews for the project.
They said they agreed to be interviewed out of love and respect for Hillel and his memory.
The documentary, “The Rise of the Red Hot Chili Peppers: Our Brother, Hillel,” uses AI to regenerate Hillel Slovak’s voice from his journals, a technique that garnered attention upon its release.
Frontman Anthony Kiedis reflects on Hillel Slovak’s legacy, expressing regret that Hillel missed out on certain milestones with the band. Kiedis acknowledges Hillel’s role as a creator of the band and emphasizes his lasting impact on the group.
