Paul Janeway has never been afraid of risk—on stage or in life. In a wide‑ranging conversation with Chasta & Huey on 107.7 The Bone, the St. Paul & The Broken Bones frontman reflects on growing up steeped in gospel music, questioning the church as he got older, and ultimately finding meaning in love, service, and human connection rather than dogma.
Janeway’s performances are famously unpredictable—climbing ladders, balconies, and occasionally getting stuck mid‑show—all by design. He believes there should be a sense of danger in live music, a feeling that anything could happen in the moment. Offstage, though, his life is grounded in simplicity, family, and gratitude.
Music, he says, is a spiritual conduit—something that brings people together, becomes a soundtrack to life’s biggest moments, and allows strangers to share something real.
Fans can experience that raw, communal energy live when St. Paul & The Broken Bones take the stage at San Francisco’s Warfield on April 1 – get tickets here.
