Mike Dirnt of Green Day was deeply inspired by seeing late Metallica bassist Cliff Burton play live for the first time in 1985.
Dirnt met Burton in San Pablo before witnessing him perform at Day on the Green, where he was awestruck by Burton’s live performance.
Burton’s one-take bass solo on “(Anesthesia) – Pulling Teeth” left a lasting impression on Dirnt, solidifying Burton’s influence on him as a young musician.
