Primus has a new drummer.
The band announced on Instagram that John Hoffman has been chosen following the departure of Tim “Herb” Alexander.
The band started the search after Alexander resigned due to a “loss of passion for playing,” which surprised his bandmates Les Claypool and Larry LaLonde.
Hoffman impressed Primus during his in-person audition, which was also observed by Tool frontman Maynard James Keenan, and expressed his joy saying, “I’m incredibly excited to be joining Primus.”
He said, “I will speak more on everything soon, but for now I just want to reiterate my love and thanks to you all, as well as the other monstrous and unbelievably talented drummers who were in involved in this audition process, some of whom I made friends with along the way. And of course, extra special thanks to Les, Ler, Soya, Brad, and the rest of the Primus team for seeing something in me, trusting in me, believing in me, and inviting me into this amazing family. I promise, I will not let you down. Can’t wait to see you all at Sessanta.”
Hoffman, a drummer from Shreveport, La., also documented his preparation for the audition on YouTube.
