Jon Bon Jovi has named his pick for the greatest guitar player of all time. And it isn’t former bandmate Richie Sambora.
Out of all the guitar players who have left their mark on music, Bon Jovi says, the late Jeff Beck stood head and shoulders above the rest. Then again, the singer could be a little jaded; he worked with Beck on the soundtrack to Young Guns.
“I was in the room with Jeff Beck when he took a guitar out of a cardboard box, had a rented amplifier and no pedals and created that sound when we did the Young Guns record,” he recalls. “He was my guitar player. I sat there flabbergasted because Jeff Beck did things with his fingers and his thumb that would blow your mind.”
Then again, maybe Bon Jovi isn’t 100 percent committed to his selection. After giving the matter some thought, he says, “Jimi Hendrix would of course be in the starting lineup, but you put me on the spot.”
