Deep Purple have been forced to postpone two concerts in Germany after legendary frontman Ian Gillan, 81, was hospitalized following a medical emergency. The band announced that its scheduled October 31 performance at QI Arena in Leipzig and November 1 show at Sporthalle in Hamburg would not go ahead as planned. In an official statement, the group expressed disappointment over the last-minute cancellations and confirmed that Gillan’s hospitalization was the reason behind the decision.
The band is currently working to reschedule both performances and has assured fans that all previously purchased tickets will remain valid for the new dates. No additional details about Gillan’s medical condition or expected recovery have been released. Best known as the powerhouse voice behind Deep Purple classics like “Smoke on the Water” and “Highway Star,” Gillan has remained a defining figure in hard rock for more than five decades. The band’s ongoing SPLAT! World Tour is scheduled to continue, although Gillan’s return to the stage has not yet been confirmed.
