UC Berkeley hosted its first-ever Grateful Dead night during a home game against Wake Forest.
The Grateful Dead played 29 shows at the William Randolph Hearst Greek Theatre on UC Berkeley’s campus between 1967 and 1989.
Cal collaborated with Class Trip to create custom uniforms and merchandise blending Grateful Dead iconography with Cal’s team colors and mascot.
Mickey Hart worked with the Cal Band to capture the spirit of “Fire on the Mountain,” describing it as a “happy song” with a “tropical” and “island groove.”
Hart praised the band’s progress in capturing the song’s feel and encouraged them to keep the tempo up, emphasizing the need for a danceable rhythm.
