Legendary rock vocalist and bassist Glenn Hughes is recovering at home after undergoing a 10-hour open heart surgery to replace his aortic valve. The former Deep Purple and Black Sabbath musician revealed that the procedure marked his second heart surgery and expressed gratitude to the medical professionals who helped him through the operation. Despite the serious nature of the procedure, Hughes remains optimistic about his recovery and says he is gradually regaining his strength.
“Each day as I move forward, I am getting my energy back. There is only love in my life. There are no mistakes,” Hughes shared in a heartfelt update. The health challenges have led the rock veteran to cancel touring plans and announce his retirement from touring. Reflecting on his journey, Hughes offered a philosophical message to fans, saying, “Never believe that there is something wrong in your life. You are where you’re supposed to be.”
Hughes has enjoyed a remarkable career spanning more than five decades, beginning with the British rock band Trapeze before achieving international fame with Deep Purple. He later worked with Black Sabbath and collaborated with rock legends including Gary Moore and Tony Iommi. His most recent solo album, Chosen, was released in 2025. While his touring days may be behind him, Hughes continues to focus on his health, recovery, and appreciation for life.
