Richard Patrick has spent decades evolving — and he’s not done yet.
At Aftershock Festival, the Filter frontman reflected on 24 years of continuous sobriety, openly discussing his past struggles with alcoholism and why he believes talking about recovery can help others feel less alone.
Patrick also looked back at the ’90s, an era he remembers as both creatively exciting and increasingly chaotic. From massive record budgets to the rise of Napster and streaming, he watched the music industry transform almost overnight.
He also revisited one of the biggest risks of his career: leaving Nine Inch Nails to pursue Filter. At just 25, Patrick felt he had to bet on himself — a decision that ultimately produced enduring hits like “Hey Man, Nice Shot.”
Now, Filter has a new album coming in 2027, while Patrick is also exploring industrial trap metal with his new project, A Place to Kill.
