For Oleander frontman Thomas Flowers, coming back to the band isn’t about chasing the past. It’s about rediscovering why they wanted to make music in the first place.
After years of nonstop touring, writing and recording, Oleander eventually needed a break. Now, Flowers says the band is approaching music differently — with less pressure, more perspective and, most importantly, more fun.
That renewed energy was sparked by Aftershock, which gave the band a reason to get back in a rehearsal room. Before long, they were writing songs again and rediscovering that familiar chemistry.
From playing the first Aftershock in 2012 to returning to Sacramento years later, Flowers sees Oleander — and his hometown — as underdogs who kept going.
And after 25 years of music, his reason for continuing is simple: “I just love it, dude.”
