Codefendants’ Aftershock conversation had plenty of laughs, wild stories and Bay Area name-drops, but the band’s answer to one question brought everything back to why they make music in the first place.
Asked the Almost Famous question — “What do you love about music?” — the answers became deeply personal.
For one member, music provided a way to express feelings growing up when vulnerability could feel like weakness. For another, songwriting became an outlet as a teenager struggling to communicate, and it’s remained one of the few things that has never gotten old.
Then came the simplest explanation: music lets you turn nothing into something — something that can move people, connect them and eventually belong to everyone.
After all the chaos, touring and years of making records, that’s the magic that keeps Codefendants going.
