Chasta and Baby Huey caught up with Sleeping With Sirens backstage at Aftershock, where the band took a nostalgic look back at its early days building an audience during the MySpace era. The guys recalled staying up until the early morning hours messaging thousands of potential fans, finding audiences from similar bands and doing whatever they could to spread the word. They also remembered a period when they were sleeping in a Subaru and parking in friends’ driveways — a far cry from where their career would eventually take them.
Kellin Quinn also reflected on how older Sleeping With Sirens songs now feel like entries from an old journal, allowing him to revisit the mindset he was in when he wrote them. When it comes to making music today, he said the band is focused on the people who actually come to the shows and connect with the songs rather than industry analytics. For their newest record, Sleeping With Sirens returned to a more organic process, writing together in a room without outside help — something Kellin says made the work harder, but ultimately worth it.
