Baby Huey caught up with Killswitch Engage frontman Jesse Leach backstage at Aftershock to talk about the band’s future, the possibility of writing new music and his desire to take things in an even heavier direction. Jesse also reflected on the creative process behind “This Consequence,” revealing how the band’s high level of quality control challenged him to grow as both a vocalist and lyricist.
Jesse also opened up about mental health and why he believes vulnerability should be viewed as a strength rather than a weakness. The conversation touched on his love for Bay Area metal, hardcore and punk, touring with Machine Head and Iron Reagan, and CM Punk bringing back “This Fire Burns” in WWE. When asked what he loves most about music, Jesse pointed to the connection between artist and audience, calling that shared experience “beautiful.”
