The documentary “Neil Peart: No One’s Disciple” will premiere at the Toronto International Film Festival on September 16, with a subsequent public screening on September 19 and airing on Canada’s CBC network on September 23.
Director Sam Dunn explained the decision to make a documentary about Neil Peart, stating, “Neil Peart is one of the greatest rock drummers of all time… we hope what this documentary will reveal is [that he was] also a very loyal and loving friend, an inspiration to a lot of people.”
The film aims to shed light on the personal side of Neil Peart, as Dunn mentioned, “I think people know the drummer and the lyricist and the talented artist that he was, but I don’t think people really know much about him personally, ’cause he was quite a guarded person.”
“Neil Peart: No One’s Disciple” documents Peart’s early struggles as an artist, his rise to fame, and includes interviews with Rush co-founders Geddy Lee and Alex Lifeson, as well as other renowned drummers who pay tribute to Peart.
Rush’s current ‘Fifty Something’ features a revamped lineup with Lee, Lifeson, German drummer Anika Nilles, and keyboardist Loren Gold, with the band playing two sets each night from a catalog of around 40 tracks.
