Metallica are celebrating the 10th anniversary of “Hardwired” by revisiting the song’s live debut at U.S. Bank Stadium in Minneapolis on August 20, 2016.
The performance took place just days after Metallica unexpectedly released “Hardwired” and announced Hardwired…To Self-Destruct. The Minneapolis crowd became the first audience to experience the song live, in what would essentially become the unofficial kickoff to the band’s massive WorldWired era.
Metallica originally shared footage from the performance in 2016, but for the anniversary, the band went back to the archives to give the historic moment a major upgrade.
The new version features Greg Fidelman’s live mix from the deluxe edition of Hardwired…To Self-Destruct, along with a completely reworked video assembled from footage captured by 15 different cameras.
With the crowd hearing the blistering track live for the first time, the restored performance captures Metallica at the beginning of an era that would take them around the world.
