Former Pearl Jam drummer Matt Cameron confirmed that there was communication with Dave Grohl regarding the Foo Fighters drummer role, but clarified that he wasn’t looking to take on the gig.
Cameron expressed that he had no reservations about how things turned out for Foo Fighters after they chose former Nine Inch Nails drummer Ilan Rubin: “It worked out great, you know. I mean, they got a killer guy. And I saw them with Josh (Freese). I thought Josh was crushing it.”
Cameron cited the physical demands of Pearl Jam’s grueling three-hour shows and relentless touring schedule as key factors in his decision to step away from the band after 27 years.
Pearl Jam’s search for a replacement drummer was a lengthy process, with the band not publicly confirming a new drummer nearly a year after Cameron’s exit.
Cameron’s post-Pearl Jam focus has been on working with Soundgarden to release a final album featuring vocals from the late Chris Cornell, indicating a redirection of his energy away from his former band.
