Bring Me The Horizon is re-recording their debut album, “Count Your Blessings,” to celebrate its 20th anniversary, with frontman Oli Sykes stating that they “got to remake the album how we wanted it to sound back then.”
Some fans have raised concerns about the original lyrics of the album, which have been criticized as misogynistic, and are questioning if they are still appropriate today.
Diehard fan Sash Vee appreciates the band’s return to their roots but is conflicted about whether the lyrics should be updated to reflect current sensibilities, suggesting that “if you’re going to have the opportunity to remaster something, then why not, let’s update the lyrics as well.”
Oli Sykes expressed dissatisfaction with the original recording of “Count Your Blessings,” noting that they lacked the right producer and guidance on BPMs and tempos, leading to a subpar sound.
Vocal coach Jade Maris explains that producing harsh sounds like screams can cause damage if done incorrectly but emphasizes that with proper practice and technique, it can be done safely, highlighting the evolution of awareness on scream singing techniques since the early 2000s.
