Metallica’s Lars Ulrich never saw cover tunes as taking the easy way out and was not snobby about others putting their spin on Metallica classics.
Metallica’s discography shows they were inspired by various artists, like David Bowie and others, incorporating different influences into their music.
Ulrich, known for branching out into other music genres, admired bands like U2 and Oasis, with “Wonderwall” sealing the deal for him regarding Oasis.
Ulrich hoped that Oasis would cover a Metallica song, particularly wanting to hear Noel and Liam Gallagher perform “Nothing Else Matters” acoustically.
Metallica’s playful tribute to Oasis with a cover of “Wonderwall” was more of a joke, but Ulrich’s excitement about the idea of Oasis covering their songs highlighted his appreciation for different music styles and bands stepping out of their comfort zones.
