David Gilmour believes that no artist should concern themselves with which album is a masterpiece, but he still considers “Dark Side of the Moon” as the band’s best work.
Pink Floyd’s journey to creating Dark Side of the Moon involved overcoming challenges and finding their sound, with ‘Echoes’ off of “Meddle” being a pivotal moment.
The band’s earlier albums like “Atom Heart Mother” had great sonic imagery but lacked direction, while their iconic shows in Pompeii helped them realize their potential.
“Dark Side of the Moon” was initially described as a descent into lunacy, but the studio version transformed it into a cohesive and harrowing journey through the mind.
Despite reaching greater heights with albums like “The Wall” and “Animals,” David Gilmour and other band members believe that “Dark Side of the Moon” was their sturdiest concept and a landmark in rock music history.
