The new Netflix documentary about Red Hot Chili Peppers founding guitarist Hillel Slovak features a voiceover from an AI-generated Slovak.
The documentary, titled “The Rise Of The Red Hot Chili Peppers: Our Brother, Hillel,” explores the early history of the band and focuses on Slovak, who played on their first three studio albums before his death in 1988.
The film includes interviews with various band members, including Anthony Kiedis, Flea, Jack Irons, John Frusciante, as well as Slovak’s brother James and his girlfriend Addie Brik.
The documentary uses AI technology to reproduce Slovak’s voice from his journals, bringing him to life in the film.
Despite being interviewed for the documentary, the band has distanced themselves from the project, clarifying that it is not a Red Hot Chili Peppers documentary and that they had no creative involvement in it.
