Ten minutes of previously unseen footage of Pink Floyd performing live on the North American leg of their In The Flesh tour in 1977 has been uploaded to YouTube.
The footage includes sections of “Wish You Were Here,” “Shine On You Crazy Diamond,” and “Money,” and captures various aspects of the performance, such as the band members on stage, David Gilmour’s slide solo, transitions between parts, and Dick Parry’s sax solo in “Money.”
Rolling Stone’s 1977 review of the Anaheim show where the footage was filmed was critical, describing Pink Floyd’s concerts as perfunctory and aloof, lacking the organic confidence and artistry of their records.
The Anaheim show marked the end of the In The Flesh tour, which concluded in Montreal where Roger Waters spat at a fan, an incident that inspired the band’s next album, The Wall.
Waters explained that the idea for The Wall album came from feeling alienated from the audience during the tour, leading to the concept of a wall separating the band from the audience during performances.
