Stevie Nicks found unexpected inspiration for her hit Stand Back while on her honeymoon, when Prince’s Little Red Corvette came on the radio. Captivated, she immediately began crafting what became one of her signature songs. Eager to involve Prince, Nicks contacted him and offered 50% of the royalties if he would play on the track.
Prince agreed, contributing uncredited keyboard work that helped shape its distinctive sound—and sparking a lasting friendship between the two icons. Later, Prince handed Nicks a cassette of a new instrumental piece and asked her to write lyrics for it. When she played it at home, she was stunned: it was the future Purple Rain. Overwhelmed, she ultimately passed, saying, “I can’t write a song to this!”
