Back in 2009, Aerosmith found themselves in an unusual legal battle—sued by their own fans. The dispute arose after the band canceled a scheduled concert in Maui, citing logistical issues. Hawaiian fans filed a lawsuit seeking compensation beyond ticket refunds, accusing the band of prioritizing financial gain over their commitments. The suit pointed to Aerosmith’s decision to reschedule mainland shows for larger audiences and perform a private concert for Toyota shortly after the cancellation.
Ultimately, Aerosmith settled the case by agreeing to return to Maui later that year, offering free tickets to affected fans and framing the resolution as a goodwill gesture. Despite the controversy, frontman Steven Tyler later returned to Maui, bought a home, and said he felt he had reconnected with the local community.
