Lars Ulrich says Metallica’s curiosity and fear of complacency were the driving forces behind their willingness to take creative risks and explore new ideas.

He said the band’s early decision to avoid being boxed in and repeating the same formula for each album set them apart from other bands in the hard-rock community.

The new documentary “Metallica Saved My Life” features interviews with fans from 23 different countries and explores the band’s impact on their lives over four decades.

Ulrich credits the use of “Master Of Puppets” in the Netflix series “Stranger Things” for introducing a new generation of fans to Metallica’s music.
