After 20 years as Foreigner’s lead singer, Kelly Hansen announced his departure at the end of the 2025 summer tour saying, “Being the voice of Foreigner has been one of the greatest honors of my life.”
Luis Maldonado, the current multi-instrumentalist of Foreigner, will replace Hansen as the lead singer, with Hansen expressing confidence in Maldonado’s ability, saying, “Luis has the voice, the energy, and the soul to carry these songs into the future.”
Mick Jones, the founding Foreigner songwriter and guitarist, praised Hansen’s contributions over the years and expressed his satisfaction with the transition to Maldonado, stating, “I wish Kelly great happiness in his next endeavors after our summer tour, and I look forward to welcoming Luis to his new position.”
The farewell tour initially announced by Foreigner in November 2022, which was supposed to end in 2024, has been extended multiple times, but the recent press release about Hansen’s departure no longer refers to the current dates as part of a farewell tour.
