Foo Fighters have parted ways with drummer Josh Freese, just two years after he officially joined the band following the tragic death of Taylor Hawkins. Freese, a legendary session and touring drummer known for work with Nine Inch Nails, Guns N’ Roses, and A Perfect Circle, revealed the news via Instagram. He stated the band informed him they were “going in a different direction” earlier this week.
“I’m not angry—just a bit shocked and disappointed,” Freese wrote. “In my 40 years of drumming professionally, I’ve never been let go from a band.” Despite the surprising dismissal, Freese remained upbeat, teasing fans with a “Top 10 possible reasons Josh got booted” list.
Foo Fighters had brought Freese on board in 2023, following his performances at the Taylor Hawkins tribute shows. The band has not commented publicly. Their next scheduled performance is at the Singapore Grand Prix on October 4, 2025.
