Steve Perry has released a surprise cover of Journey’s power ballad “Faithfully” with Willie Nelson.
The cover features Nelson taking the first verse, with Perry joining in for the chorus, accompanied by a weeping steel guitar played by Scott Sanders.
The collaboration between Nelson and Perry on “Faithfully” may be part of a forthcoming album-length project, though this is not confirmed.
Willie Nelson has a history of covering rock songs, including those by Neil Young, ZZ Top, Creedence Clearwater Revival, and others, making the pairing with Perry less surprising.
Steve Perry’s cover of “Faithfully” marks his first release since the expanded update of 2021’s The Season, following a series of holiday-related projects and the release of his LP Traces in 2018.
