Queens of the Stone Age have announced a new concert film recorded live in the Catacombs of Paris.
The flick is titled ‘Queens of the Stone Age: Alive in the Catacombs.’
Frontman Josh Homme had the idea for the concert nearly two decades ago, and it marked the first time a band received legal sanction to perform in the Catacombs, which house 6 million corpses.
Homme described the experience as “the biggest audience we’ve ever played for” and felt welcomed among the dead, stating, “If you’re ever going to be haunted, surrounded by several million dead people is the place.”
The performance featured stripped-back acoustic versions of the band’s songs, incorporating a three-piece string section and unconventional percussion methods due to the lack of electrical outlets in the Catacombs.
Hélène Furminieux of Les Catacombes de Paris praised the performance, noting that Homme seemed to fully embrace the mystery and history of the Catacombs, with the music resonating with the setting’s introspective nature.
