The Excelsior District street where Jerry Garcia grew up is set to be renamed ‘Jerry Garcia Street’ after City Hall approval.
The house on Harrington Street was Jerry Garcia’s grandparents’ house, where he lived after his father’s death during his boyhood.
Jerry Garcia attended Monroe Elementary School while living on Harrington Street and later formed the Grateful Dead in 1965.
The SF Board of Supervisors unanimously approved the resolution to add the commemorative street name ‘Jerry Garcia Street’ to Harrington Street.
Jerry Garcia published a memoir of his childhood called Harrington Street, describing his time in the house on Harrington Street.
