Gary Holt reflected on Kirk Hammett joining Metallica, stating that it put him in the driver’s seat when it came to Exodus.
Holt admitted that he probably would not have joined Metallica if given the opportunity at the time due to fear of change.
There was no consideration of asking Dave Mustaine to join Exodus after Kirk’s departure; Holt expressed gratitude to Kirk for getting him started on his musical journey.
Holt recounted his first meeting with Kirk Hammett in high school and how it inspired him to pursue playing guitar.
Holt clarified that only two riffs written while Kirk was in Exodus were adapted by him, and the rest of the material on “Bonded By Blood” was written after Kirk’s departure.
