Paramount+ will release a remastered version of Cameron Crowe’s 1983 documentary ‘Tom Petty: Heartbreakers Beach Party’ on March 11.
The restored version of the film includes a new intro from Crowe, along with 20 minutes of previously unreleased footage, live performances, and footage of Petty and the band.
The film captures Tom Petty and The Heartbreakers as they finish, promote, and tour the ‘Long After Dark’ album, their third and final project with producer Jimmy Iovine.
The original film was released in theaters in October to coincide with Petty’s 74th birthday and has not been seen since its 1983 premiere on MTV.
Crowe expressed his fondness for the film, stating, “Heartbreakers Beach Party occupies a special place in my heart… The fact that the original film was yanked from MTV after only one airing shows that it was, and still is, an outlandish feast for fans in the best ways.”
