Joe Satriani’s son suggested the G3 reunion as part of a documentary idea about growing up with a musician father.
Convincing promoters and managers for the original G3 tour in ’96 was challenging due to having three headlining instrumental guitar players.
The G3 reunion tour in 2018 was organized in a short time frame by agent Wayne Forte, bringing together Satriani, Steve Vai, and Eric Johnson.
The reunion tour was captured on film and will be released as a documentary in the near future.
The G3 reunion tour was a special experience, with Satriani mentioning, “The shots wound up being great from that tour and especially the end at The Orpheum, it was really special.”
