Gene Simmons once considered naming a KISS song “Sh*t” but was persuaded by producer Bob Ezrin to change it to “Spit” for commercial reasons.
“Spit,” released in 1992, features lyrics from Spinal Tap’s “Big Bottom” and guitar solo quotes from “The Star-Spangled Banner.”
Simmons incorporates “Spit” and other unconventional songs from his repertoire into his solo concerts, where setlists are dynamic and diverse.
Despite Ezrin’s advice, Simmons titled his 2004 solo album ‘Assh*le’ as a preemptive response to detractors and to assert his independence.
Simmons and his band will embark on a six-week tour starting on April 3, featuring a mix of classic KISS hits and Simmons’ solo material.
