Van Halen and Journey both have a long history of intra-band squabbles – so it’s no surprise the two bands didn’t get along when they toured together in 1978.
Michael Anthony talked to SiriusXM’s Eddie Trunk about that tour, which came right after the release of Van Halen’s first album.
He says Journey was “trying to kick us off the tour every week” because they were getting upstaged. “The record company kept going ‘No, you can’t kick them off the tour.”
Even members of Journey have admitted to being a little intimidated by Van Halen’s live energy – Steve Perry has called them “relentless” while Neal Schon said Eddie Van Halen was “on fire”.
