Brendon Small joins Nikki Blakk to chat about all things Metalocalypse, Dethklok’s Aftershock performance, and more!

Small created Metalocalypse with Tommy Blacha for Adult Swim in 2006 and shared not only the challenges of the show but also the importance of maintaining the artistic value of the show’s DNA.

Comparing the evolving nature of the show to a band’s journey he said, “The DNA is the same, but you keep mutating as you go forward just like a band does. The band starts on one record and ends on another record…wait a minute…it’s the same band, it’s just the DNA mutating [because] they allowed themselves to mutate.”

When asked if Metalocalypse was coming to an end Small said, “I would never…walk away from something if people want more…[however] This is the end of the Metalocalypse story as it was laid out from episode one.”

Metalcoalypse‘s on-screen band Dethklok has become a fan favorite and is currently on a nationwide tour. Sadly they are not making an appearance in San Francisco. Addressing his need for new ventures since he’s “Been inside for the last three years,” Small said he would love to come to the Bay Area.

Fortunately, Bay Area fans can see Dethklok perform at Aftershock on Saturday, October 7th, 2023 at Discovery Park in Sacramento, California.

Small promised the performance will be “The show of the year” and that Dethklok’s new album “Dethalbum IV” is “heavier than anything before.”

Dethklok are in good company at Aftershock – Guns N’ Roses, Tool, Avenged Sevenfold, Korn, Godsmack, Pantera, Incubus, Queens Of The Stone Age, Limp Bizkit, Megadeth, Rancid, Turnstile, 311, and more will all perform at the festival from October 5th to 8th 2023.

Brendon Small also tells Nikki Blakk about his personal connection to the Bay Area, DVD collection, ass kegels, and more. Watch the complete interview here.
