Brian May, Eddie Van Halen ‘Star Fleet’ Project Expanded Box Set Announced

A legendary rock’n’roll side project is getting an expanded box set reissue for its 40th anniversary.

That would be Star Fleet Project, a band that included Queen’s Brian May and Eddie Van Halen that released a 3-song mini-album in 1983.

May says the box set will include virtually every note recorded in the studio: “Every take of every song…plus fragments of conversations, out-takes, and musical experimentation.”

“But it won’t be just a remaster – we’ve rescued everything from the original multitracks, every detail magnificently remixed and more!” May continued, “You’ll hear every take from the historic 1983 sessions plus fragments of conversations, outtakes and musical experimentation.”

“It’s been very exciting to open up the vault to find these tapes where, in the blink of an eye, I’m trading licks with my friends, including the fantastic Ed Van Halen,” May said. “It’s highly emotional, especially since Ed is sadly no longer around. We have since also lost Phil, so the rest of us cherish these fleeting moments together.”

The Brian May + Friends: Star Fleet Sessions Box Set will be out on July 14th.
